NDP President Seeking Nomination

Memorial University education professor and New Democratic Party president Dr. Dale Kirby announced today that he is seeking the NDP nomination in the district of St. John's North for the upcoming provincial election.

"I am optimistic about our prospects in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Kirby. "I believe that, with our province's unselfish community spirit and our tradition of supporting one another, Newfoundland and Labrador can do better – better for seniors, better for children and youth, better for working families, and better for our communities."

Kirby is nationally recognized for his work as a professor, researcher, and consultant in the vitally important field of improving student participation and success in college and university. As Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Students in the 1990s, he led a successful campaign to freeze college and university tuition fees in this province.

"This is an exciting time for New Democrats in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Kirby. "Lorraine Michael has provided strong, credible, and principled leadership in the House of Assembly. I look forward to working with her to deliver results for people of St. John’s North."
